1. Who we are
DreamDIY (dreamdiy.co.uk) is operated by Struttstep Digital, based in the UK. We help homeowners visualise a home improvement project, plan the materials and steps, and share the results with a community of other DIYers. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use DreamDIY, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. If you have any questions, contact us at support@dreamdiy.co.uk.
2. What we collect
- Account details - your email address and password, handled through Supabase authentication.
- Room photos and renders- the "before" photos you upload and the AI-generated "after" renders we create for you, stored on Cloudflare R2.
- Project details - project descriptions, materials lists, step plans, notes, and your progress through a build checklist.
- Subscription and payment status - your plan tier and billing status. Your card details are collected and stored entirely by Stripe; they never reach DreamDIY's servers.
- Basic usage data - via Vercel Web Analytics (see Cookies, below).
3. How we use your information
We use your information to run the core DreamDIY service: creating your account, generating and saving your room visualisations and plans, processing payments, sending you service emails (like render completion or billing receipts), and - only if you publish a project - showing your before/after photos on the public ideas board.
AI processing
To generate your room visualisation, we send your uploaded photo and project description to Google's Gemini image model as a data processor acting on our instructions. To generate materials lists, step plans, and tradesperson briefs, we send your project description to Anthropic's Claude model, also acting as a processor on our instructions. Neither Google nor Anthropic uses the content you send through DreamDIY to train their models, and we do not use your content to train any AI model ourselves.
4. Our lawful bases
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following bases to process your data:
- Contract - processing needed to provide the account and features you sign up for (renders, plans, storage, billing).
- Consent- for the optional marketing newsletter, and for publishing your photos to the community ideas board (you choose to publish; we don't do it for you).
- Legitimate interests - keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, diagnosing and fixing errors, and understanding overall usage through privacy-friendly, non-identifying analytics.
5. Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers (processors) we rely on to run DreamDIY, each bound by their own data protection terms:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account data, authentication, and project database (EU-hosted Postgres) |
| Cloudflare R2 | Storage for uploaded room photos and AI-generated renders |
| Google (Gemini) | Generates AI room visualisations from your photos and descriptions |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Generates materials lists, step plans, and tradesperson briefs |
| Stripe | Payment processing and subscription billing - card details go to Stripe, never to us |
| Resend | Transactional emails (sign-in, receipts, project notifications) |
| Kit (ConvertKit) | Optional marketing newsletter, only if you opt in |
| Vercel | Hosting and privacy-friendly, cookie-free website analytics for the DreamDIY web app |
| Sentry | Error and performance monitoring to detect and fix bugs (no marketing or advertising use) |
If you publish a project to the community ideas board, its photos and title become visible to other users and to the public. You choose what to publish and can delete your own posts at any time. Materials lists may link out to third-party retailers (such as Screwfix, B&Q, Wickes, or Amazon); visiting those links is subject to their own privacy policies.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your account, project, photo, and render data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep billing records for tax or accounting purposes, or content you've published to the community ideas board that other users have interacted with (you can still remove your own published posts at any time).
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Ask us to delete your data ("the right to be forgotten").
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@dreamdiy.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
8. Cookies and similar technologies
DreamDIY only uses essential cookies and local storage - to keep you signed in and to remember app state like your current project. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. Our analytics provider, Vercel Web Analytics, is cookie-free and doesn't track you across sites or build a profile of you, which is why you won't see a cookie consent banner on DreamDIY.
9. Children
DreamDIY is not intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we'll remove it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as DreamDIY evolves. If we make significant changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, let you know.
